(June 2, 2026) – Congratulations to the Ayer Shirley Regional High School girls track and field team for winning the MIAA Division 6 state title this past weekend. Via Facebook, Boston Globe and Ayer Shirley AD-Wellness.
Speaking at the School Committee’s meeting this week, the district’s athletic director shared a list of events the team won at the MIAA Division 6 championships, adding that the team was also undefeated in league play and won the district meet. Notably, the athletic director said this was the first Ayer Shirley girls’ state championship since the two towns merged school districts, about 15 years ago.
Two of the runners – one a freshman and one a senior – also attended Tuesday night’s School Committee meeting and showed the committee their awards. During this, a School Committee member asked how fast one of the students ran. Get ready: she ran the 100-meter dash in 12.41 seconds!
The senior said she plans to attend college next year and continue in track and field.
The assistant coach praised the students, “This entire season, they worked super hard, were out there every single day.”
A School Committee member also congratulated the students, saying they should be proud. “It takes a lot of work, not just to be an athlete, but a student athlete, right?”
He continued, “The fact that you were able to do this while going to school, while having internships, it takes tremendous effort and discipline and this committee couldn’t be more proud of the work you’re doing. The community couldn’t be more proud.”
