(June 16, 2026) – Gerry Amenta is Ayer’s new Parks and Recreation Director. Gerry is an Ayer resident and former Parks Commissioner of six years. The Ayer Select Board voted to ratify his appointment at Tuesday night’s Select Board meeting.
Gerry had served as interim director for about a month and a half, stepping in when the town’s previous director unexpectedly resigned. As the town faced a lifeguard shortage going into summer, Gerry has worked on outreach, the Town Manager said at the meeting.
The position was publicly advertised on the town website and social media. Gerry was among nine candidates, selected after an initial screening committee interview, then an interview with the Parks Commission at its June 11th meeting, according to the Select Board meeting materials.
In addition to the Parks Commission, Gerry has served on the Ayer Youth Baseball Board of Directors and as a coach and league manager for the Ayer Youth Soccer Program.
