(June 25, 2026) – This was outside Ayer Town Hall on Thursday, June 25th around 8 am. There’s a flyer that reads, “You’re being watched,” by an organization we’re not familiar with, then what appears to be a Flock Safety camera.

On April 21st, a resident raised questions about the Ayer Police Department’s use of Flock Safety cameras. According to the Select Board meeting minutes, the police chief confirmed that the system was in the process of being brought online. Since then it has been said at some meetings that the cameras are not operational yet, but we don’t know the current status.
Over the past few weeks, residents began sharing comments about the Flock Safety cameras on Facebook groups, many upset. The Ayer Police Department posted a Flock Safety Camera Information Portal on the town’s website on June 8th. On June 16th, the police chief presented the portal at the Select Board meeting and a number of residents brought their concerns to the meeting.
Two days later, the police chief spoke at the Finance Committee meeting, with the town manager sitting at the table and the assistant town manager joining virtually. This week, we saw a resident comment about seeing a flyer on a social media forum. We went out looking and found this flyer, which we’re sharing as part of our ongoing coverage.
June 26th: We clarified our coverage and added this line: “Since then it has been said at some meetings that the cameras are not operational yet, but we don’t know the current status.“
